VICTIG vs. HireRight

If most of your hiring is CDL drivers, go with HireRight. If it isn't, here's the rest of the comparison.

Short answer

If most of your hiring is CDL drivers, choose HireRight. If it isn’t, choose VICTIG.

HireRight has built the deepest transportation screening practice in the country. If your hiring is driver-centric, stop here and go to them. If drivers are one slice of a broader program, the comparison changes. VICTIG, founded in 2006, is independent, PBSA accredited, and built around US-based people who answer the phone live and reply to email in about 7 minutes. On G2 as of August 2026, VICTIG holds 4.7 out of 5 and HireRight holds 3.9.

About the size difference

HireRight has the more enterprise-weighted reviewer base: 44.8% of their reviewers are enterprise companies against 18.6% of VICTIG’s. But VICTIG’s review base is more than twice as large, so in absolute numbers a comparable count of enterprise companies has publicly reviewed each provider — roughly 95 for VICTIG against roughly 88 for HireRight.

HireRight being the older and larger company is a real advantage in transportation and in multinational coverage, and we say so plainly further down this page. VICTIG has the people and the infrastructure to run a large program. We are large enough to run enterprise-scale screening and small enough that no client’s attention gets rationed by account size. If you are evaluating us for a program at the top of the market, that is a normal conversation here, not an exception.

G2 scores as of August 2026, based on verified user reviews. Enterprise counts are derived by applying G2’s published segment percentages to each product’s total review count. See the live comparison on G2.

Where HireRight fits

There are situations where HireRight is the better call. We would rather save you the evaluation than pretend otherwise.

  • Driver-centric hiring, without qualification. If CDL drivers under FMCSA rules are the bulk of who you hire, HireRight is the right answer. They offer DAC employment history, the industry’s shared driver employment database, PSP reports covering five years of crash data and three years of roadside inspections, CDLIS+ checks verifying a current CDL and up to three prior licenses, DOT drug and alcohol history verification, and driver qualification file management.
  • Regulated fleets beyond trucking, where continuous MVR monitoring and qualification files are the core of the program rather than an add-on.
  • Large multinational programs needing coverage well outside the United States.

Every one of those is about regulated transportation or geography. Each is a question of fit, not of capability. If your hiring is mostly outside DOT regulation, keep reading.

Where we’re different

Scale is great right up until you need something that isn’t in the playbook. Then you need a person who knows your account, which is where VICTIG comes in.

  • At VICTIG, a person is accountable for your account. Call and a US-based person picks up. Email and you hear back in about 7 minutes. Reviewers score VICTIG’s support 9.7 against HireRight’s 7.3.
  • Enterprise capability without enterprise queues. VICTIG is resourced and staffed to run programs at the top of the market. What we don’t do is decide how much attention you get based on the size of your contract.
  • Tailored, not tiered. We build your screening package around what you actually hire for, whether that’s fifty roles a year or many thousands.
  • Humans review the records. More expensive to staff, and the reason VICTIG’s reports hold up when someone challenges them.
  • Continuity. Twenty years, independent, same leadership. No private equity owner running a synergy plan across your account.

Why VICTIG

Which fits you better?

The honest version, including when neither of us is the answer.

Choose VICTIG if
  • Your hiring is US-based and mostly not DOT-regulated, at any volume from 50 hires a year to enterprise scale
  • You run a fleet alongside a much larger non-driver workforce
  • You’re a large employer who has been handed to a tier instead of a team
  • You’ve been routed to a ticket queue by a large vendor
  • You want your screening package built around your roles
  • Compliance review needs a human, not just a rules engine
  • Turnaround consistency matters more to you than vendor size
  • You’re in staffing, healthcare, technology, hospitality, or nonprofit
Choose HireRight if
  • Most of your hiring is CDL drivers under FMCSA rules
  • You need DAC employment history or PSP reports
  • You manage driver qualification files at scale
  • Your program spans many countries
Choose neither if
  • You’re an individual checking on a person, not an employer screening a candidate
  • You need tenant or volunteer screening rather than employment screening
  • You’re running a government RFP process

Common questions

Is VICTIG a good alternative to HireRight?

For hiring that is mostly outside DOT regulation, yes. VICTIG is a PBSA-accredited consumer reporting agency founded in 2006 that runs criminal, verification, drug screening, and ongoing monitoring programs for mid-market and enterprise employers. Where commercial drivers are the bulk of the hiring, HireRight remains the stronger provider because of its DAC employment history database and FMCSA-specific tooling.

Is VICTIG large enough to handle an enterprise screening program?

Yes. VICTIG is resourced to run screening programs at the top of the market, and being a smaller company than HireRight is not the same as having less capacity for any individual client. On G2 as of August 2026, VICTIG carries 513 verified reviews against HireRight’s 197. Applying each product’s enterprise segment share to those totals, a comparable number of enterprise companies has reviewed each provider, roughly 95 for VICTIG against roughly 88 for HireRight. Where HireRight is genuinely the better choice is DOT-regulated hiring and multinational coverage, not US scale.

Does VICTIG handle DOT and trucking screening?

DAC employment history reporting, the shared database at the center of DOT driver screening, is a HireRight product. VICTIG’s screening is built for non-driver hiring, so carriers whose hiring centers on CDL drivers are better served there. Employers running a fleet alongside a much larger non-driver workforce are a common fit for VICTIG, and worth a conversation rather than an assumption.

How do VICTIG and HireRight compare on G2?

As of August 2026, VICTIG holds 4.7 out of 5 across 513 reviews and HireRight holds 3.9 out of 5 across 197 reviews. The largest gap is quality of support, where VICTIG scores 9.7 and HireRight scores 7.3. VICTIG also leads on product direction, 9.2 to 6.9, meets requirements, 9.6 to 8.2, and ease of use, 9.6 to 8.4.

Who owns HireRight?

HireRight was taken private in June 2024 by General Atlantic and Stone Point Capital in a transaction valued at approximately $1.65 billion. It had been publicly traded since its 2021 IPO. VICTIG is independently owned and has operated under the same leadership since it was founded in 2006.

Does VICTIG integrate with my ATS?

Most likely. VICTIG integrates with iCIMS, Workday, ADP, Greenhouse, JazzHR, Lever, UKG, Jobvite, PrismHR, and others, plus an API for anything not on the list.

Are both VICTIG and HireRight FCRA compliant?

Yes. Compliance is table stakes in this category, so it isn’t a differentiator between these two. How much help you get staying compliant is.

Switching is easy

The main reason people stay with a vendor that isn’t working is that changing feels like a project. Here’s the actual process when you switch to VICTIG.

1. A conversation

We learn what you screen for and what isn’t working now.

2. A demo

You see the software with your use case in it.

3. Sign

Straightforward terms, no long negotiation.

4. We take it from there

Our team handles the ATS connection and package setup.

How hard is it to switch from HireRight to VICTIG?

Not hard. Nothing to migrate, no new system for your team to learn, and VICTIG’s onboarding team handles the ATS connection and package setup. Most clients are running checks within days. If part of your hiring is DOT-regulated, say so early and we will tell you honestly whether to keep HireRight for that piece.
